Congratulations to our entire team in making this an event to remember! Held on April 3, 2022, we fundraised significantly above our goal with $8,000 in donations and in-kind sponsorships and showed our 200 person audience, models, and volunteers just how beautiful and sustainable upcycled and recycled fashion can be!
We raised awareness of the negative environmental impact of fast fashion, and shared the value of our mission to reduce waste, refurbish, and recycle. Thanks to our guest speaker, Dr. Maryann Cairns, Professor at SMU, who shared critical stats and valuable information about fashion and climate change. And thanks to our more than 50 team members who volunteered thousands of hours to make this event possible!
Our mission is to promote sustainable fashion and aid our community by raising awareness on how fashion impacts the environment. We seek to reduce waste by refurbishing and recycling clothes, all to benefit the environment, local non-profit partners, and individuals in need.
While COVID-19 affected us all, Raina Pietrzak, the founder of Fashion for Seeds, decided to make a difference. With her passion for fashion and love for the environment, an idea was born to create Fashion for Seeds to raise awareness about the impacts of the fashion industry and contribute to local non-profit partners.
In 2020, Fashion for Seeds was started as a Highland Park High School club, which grew to over 100 student members in its first year. Fashion for Seeds is now ready to expand as a charity to take fashion and sustainability to the next level, and is in the final stages of its 501c3 certification.
